Surprise!

At about 7:30 tonight we went out front only to see this..(picture below). This is the first tornado I have ever seen in person. It was about 3 miles away. I watched it for several minutesa and took 7 0r 8 pics on my camera phone. There was no wind near me nor any rain. Also we couldn't hear the tornado. The scene was actually somewhat surreal. Here was this silent pillar of swirling cloud in the sky and I watched it for 5 or 10 minutes as it slowly contorted then disolved. I suppose I expected something a little more destructive or a little more violent in appearance. Fortunately it wasn't very destructive. Early reports are of no injuries and only minor damage (the morning may bring more news). After Charley last summer we don't need any more destruction. Looks, so far, like we dodged this one.

A new Grand Daughter and Fluxx

7/13/2005 1:26 PM - My Granddaughter Zoey Summer born!! She was 20 inches long and 7 lbs 10 oz.

While we were awaiting her arrival her mother, grandmother and myself played Fluxx. Fluxx is a card game by Looney Labs (who also produces Icehouse the subject of a previous post). Fluxx starts out easy enough 3 cards per person and each turn you draw one card and play one card. Also as you start there is no way to win the game (hang in there a second we'll get to the winning directly). As you play you can put down keepers in front of you (cards like cookies, milk, sleep, brains etc.), or a goal like, for instance 'cookies and milk' (if 'cookies and milk' is the goal than the player with both 'cookies' and 'milk' keepers in play wins). So what's the big deal you say? Well other players can change the goals and the rules as well as take your cards and a whole bunch of other things that keeps the game in a constant state of ...well... Fluxx. This is a great game as well in that my 12 and 14 year olds can understand and enjoy it as much as adults. Go get your self a copy!
